The International Labour Organisation’s Michael Cichon, one of the founders of the UN Social Protection Floor (SPF) Initiative, joins ODI for an interview and question and answer session exploring the reality of the UN SPF's exciting new direction in social protection policy. Rachel Slater, Head of the ODI's Social Protection Programme chairs the interview with the opportunity for questions from the audience and from online to feed into our discussion.
The SPF is an integrated set of social policies designed to guarantee income security. It was developed by the ILO and endorsed by the United Nations at the 2010 Millennium Development Summit. Since its inception the SPF has provoked a mix of enthusiastic support, scepticism and confusion in equal measure. This public event, hosted by Rachel Slater, Head of ODI's Social Protection Programme, offers a unique opportunity to learn about the initiative and to question Michael, either directly at the event, or through our online chatroom.
